In this project, we were required to film, edit, and produce a documentary on any topic of choice. First, we watched several documentaries, such as Blackfish, to get a feel for what made a good documentary. Through this research, I discovered that many documentaries utilized still pictures, informational themes, and interviews to get their points across. I decided to base my documentary on the magnificent Colorado School of Mines University. I managed to get a promotional video from their Youtube channel, film an information session during my tour there, and get an interview with a former student at Mines. This project taught me a lot about independent research and learning, allowing me to develop skills to get things on with little to no direction. If I were to do this project again, I would definitely make sure I could easily export video from my camera to my computer. Having to figure this out in the middle of editing slowed me down a lot.
In this project, we worked individually to create our own projects to learn about our unique areas of interests in art. In my project, I designed an animation, using the program, Pivot. I created a pre-assessment of my skills before any research, a mid-assessment of how I have grown, and finally, a final assessment of my skills at the end of this project.
ReflectionBeing a 21st century learner means being prepared and organized for trials ahead, researching skills and strategies for completing work, creating original ideas, adapting to new situations and problems, and reflecting upon your past work to improve learning and productivity.
After this project, I believe I will be more prepared for my future at Animas. I doubt I will need to have to make a Pivot animation any time soon, but this project did teach me to be independent and do my own research and work to achieve my desired learning. In this project, we were given a few Photoshop tutorials, and we learned how to do specefic things, then did them, expanding our knowledge of the program. Changing Hair ColorFor this picture, I created a new layer with soft light, then made the kitty's fur a darker color. Creating FangsIn this picture, I selected the tooth I wanted to morph, then used the morph tool to make it fang-shaped. Changing Eye ColorIn this picture, I used a soft brush to change the angry man's eyes to red.
In this project, I took given photos and mixed them together, making a completely new photo-shopped piece of art. PictureReflectionThis project taught me many things about using Photoshop. I enjoyed the freeness of the project, and how I could experiemnt with what I wanted.I learned a lot about scaling objects to the rest of the object. If I made an ant larger than a mountain it was on, something wouldn't realy look right. This project also taught me about proportion. I learned how important the size ratio between objects was, such as an object far away and an object close up. Additionally, I learned what foreground, middleground and background were. Foreground would be things close up, with background would be far away. Objects closer to the viewer are much larger than far away. I learned many cool tools, primarily object selection. My favorite toy to play with was probably the lasso tool. This allowed me to easily and neatly select an object from one picture and insert it to another picture. This allowed me to put a random ice ball in a forest. Also, I enjoyed the magic eraser, which allowed me to completely remove a picture's sky. Then, I was able to add a sunset behind the mountains. Lastly, I learned the difference between a Photoshop document and a JPEG. Photoshop documents can be freely edited in the program, with the preexisting layers and such. JPEG's are what can be uploaded onto sites. Clearly, my increased aptitude from this project is clear.
