In this project, we were required to film, edit, and produce a documentary on any topic of choice. First, we watched several documentaries, such as Blackfish, to get a feel for what made a good documentary. Through this research, I discovered that many documentaries utilized still pictures, informational themes, and interviews to get their points across. I decided to base my documentary on the magnificent Colorado School of Mines University. I managed to get a promotional video from their Youtube channel, film an information session during my tour there, and get an interview with a former student at Mines. This project taught me a lot about independent research and learning, allowing me to develop skills to get things on with little to no direction. If I were to do this project again, I would definitely make sure I could easily export video from my camera to my computer. Having to figure this out in the middle of editing slowed me down a lot.
