In this project, I set out to answer one of the most difficult questions of the world: What is the meaning of life? I explained what gave us purpose in our lives, what significance allowed us to keep going, and the personal ethics I hold true to myself. After exploring many philosophies and interpreting many opinions, I have determined a personal philosophy on the meaning of life. There is none. There is no meaning to life. I believe that there is no reason to be alive, and no purpose to our lives, and that's wonderful. We don't have any goals or challenges we are required to beat. We don't need to fulfill some destiny or prophecy determined at birth. We are allowed to live our lives however we wish, pursuing maximum happiness. I wrote a philosophy statement on how I think life is meaningless and how that's what makes life so spectacular. Then, I recorded myself writing that speech and created a video depicting images to support my words. The final video I created exemplifies how life is meaningless, and that's amazing.
Throughout this unit of philosophy, I have explored several opinions on the significance of life. Many of these philosophies state a final goal that one must pursue throughout their entire lives. Aristotle muses that individuals must strive to become the greatest people they can, through perseverance and moderation. Many people believe that morality is the route to happiness. Several religions teach that people must follow a very strict order of rules in order to go to heaven or some other plane of existence. All of these philosophies require every person on Earth to pursue the same goals and aspirations. I believe a meaningless world is a free world. In a way, meaning is restriction. A word with a definition can only be used in select situations. We must constantly attempt to remember the meanings and connotations of our words and what is considered "right". I don't want my life to have a definition. I want my life to be free.
The meaning of life isn't a question to be answered and forgotten. It is not a puzzle to be solved. It is a realization that one carries with them their entire lives. For the rest of my life, I will be questioning my own philosophy statement and shaping it as needed. Perhaps I will find a meaning to life that relates to the entire population of the Earth. Perhaps there is a true significance of life waiting to be discovered. However, until that day comes, I believe my life is meaningless, and I am content with that realization.
