In the Shakespeare project, I first researched both Shakespeare as well as his famous play, “A Midsummer Night Dream”, worked with other stage designers to construct our play stage, and worked on my role as Theseus in the play. As research, we read and watched the play to become familiar with the characters and plot. Once we were confident we understood the play, I wrote an essay analyzing Theseus’ speech, adapted a conversion of Puck’s speech, and designed a poster defining various terms relating to Shakespeare, such as heroic couplets. Once research was finished, I collaborated with my peers to design a stage. We decided to use two triangular prisms as backdrops, and hang curtains to form our stage. Once those were constructed, I finally worked on my acting and memorization of my lines. My role of Theseus was pretty large, so it took a while.
Reflection
Throughout this project, my favorite portion of work would definetely have to be constructing the stage. I love being able to get out and make stuff with my own two hands, and this was no exception. With my knowledge of engineering, I was able to somewhat lead everybody and manufacture a successful stage.
However, I really struggled with my acting performance. I am not accustomed to acting, and I had a very large role with a ton of lines to memorize. It took me plenty of hours every day to memorize every one of my lines. Alas, all my work came to naught, as all of that literally had absolutely nothing to do with my grade.
This project really taught me a lot about my collaborative skills. I was able to effectively work with my team and get the work done. I was able to perfectly communicate my ideas and guide the group to victory.
Some things never get old. Beethoven, Leonardo, and Einstein are a few revolutionary geniuses whose ideas ignore the barrier of time to still be celebrated in the present day. William Shakespeare is no exception. His play writing and acting is legendary, so amazing that many of his brilliant ideas are implemented into works of art to this day. Age has nothing to do with quality.
